Corps members protest the deduction of election allowance

Corps members trained in ondo state for the postponed general election have protested alleged deduction in their training allowance by the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The corps members who stormed the Akure South Local Government office of INEC to collect their training allowance expressed shock that instead of getting #8500, the officials were giving them #4500.

They also expressed disappointment over the decision of INEC to pay only the corps members selected for the elections, without considering others who had spent money to come for the training.
It took the intervention of a top official of the NYSC who calm the corps members.

In an interview with radio Nigeria , the ondo state coordinator of NYSC , Mrs Grace Akpabio gave the assurance that the corps members would be paid their balance through the internet banking this week.

According to Mrs Akpabio, the management of INEC and NYSC had met to sort out the mode of payment to the affected corps members, urging them to exercise patience.

The state NYSC coordinator also added that corps members deployed to the riverine area of ondo state as INEC adhoc staff had been transported back to their Primary Places of Assignment after the pronouncement of election postponement.
